Abstract:
Aging is a natural process of biological, social, and psychological modifying in
multidimensional phases. The medical sector division concerning the treatment of
elderly or aged people is known as clinical gerontology. A qualitative and quantitative
type of study was conducted to assess the bio-psychological Implications of Unani
Medicinal Use on Elderly Health at conveniently selected at Government Unani and
Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital Dhaka and Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf)
Bangladesh, Dhaka treatment center. The quantitative data was gathered by direct face
to face interview as well as observation. Five case studies have been conducted for
qualitative data. Close to seven-tenths (69.2%) of the participants were between 60
and 65. The mean age of the respondents was 72 .74 years. More than half (52.8%) of
respondents were male, and 32.5% of the respondents had a primary level of
schooling status. Most of the participants (36.7%) were housewives, and 70% of the
participant‟s source of proceeds was family business. The monthly profits of the
majority (79.2%) respondents were 5000-10000TK. The majority (70.0%) of the
respondents' living house was storied building, and 69.2% of the respondents lived
with children. More than half (69.17%) of the respondents‟ habitual addiction was
betel, and most (96.7%) of the respondents‟ were Muslims. 53.3% of the respondents'
current physical problems were joint pain, 34.2% of the respondents took Unani
medicine due to joint pain, and 25.8% took Unani medicine due to general weakness.
Most of the respondents mentioned that Unani medicine is good for health, and it
reduces pain. 37.5% of the respondents reported Unani medicine relatively cheaper
than other medical systems, and 89.5% of the respondents fully satisfied taking Unani
medicine. The majority (72.5%) of the respondents reported syrup types of Unani
medicine useful for health, and 47.5% of the respondents declared that both tablet and syrup types of Unani valuable medicine for health. Maximum 77.5% of the
respondents reported Unani medicine works slowly and absolutely. This study's
findings showed that Unani medicines or drugs play a significant role in elderly health
problems. From the survey finding, it is proved that Unani medicine is increasing day
by day.
